St Catherine's Church, Barton on Irwell | |

| T2010 The De Trafford family had looked after St Catherine's Church after helping to pay for its construction during 1865 - 68, when Sir Humphrey De Trafford had the church built at a cost of £25,000. It was later the burial place for Marshall Stevens, the first Managing Director of Trafford Park Esate, when he died in 1936. The church was refurbished, after being damaged by bombs during the Second World War. The church was later demolished during the Seventies after dry rot had been found in the roof of the building. The graveyard and as a consequence the memorial vault from Marshall Stevens is still there. | |
